Gibson Original Acoustic Instruments unveils the new Limited Edition 27 Deluxe Bubinga Dobro, which is made from golden-hued African Bubinga wood – a rare refinement that elevates this instrument above even the best traditional Dobros currently available. This beautiful Dobro is constructed in the tradition of the seminal Dobros that set the standard some 75 years ago, and is available in an extremely limited run of just 15 instruments, a rare opportunity for both player and collector.
The No. 27 Dobro was introduced in the early 1930s and was originally made with a laminated maple or mahogany body. The use of solid Bubinga — a first for Dobro — takes the format to an entirely new level, both tonally and esthetically, resulting in an instrument of unparalleled beauty that also offers a bold, powerful performance in a relatively compact package.
A relative of African rosewood, Bubinga has a bright, clear, well-defined tone with shimmering highs and excellent punch and projection. Combined with high-quality constructional elements such as a spun aluminum cone, spider bridge with ebony capped maple saddles and Corian® nut — all wrought with the unparalleled craftsmanship of Gibson's Original Acoustic Instruments Division — this exotic wood also contributes a rare and sublime look to the 27 Deluxe. Its antique lacquer finish is polished to a glowing golden brown that beautifully highlights the depth and subtle figuring of the wood. The square-back neck, made from solid mahogany, sports an ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl Lyre inlays, topped with an ebony-faced peghead with mother-of-pearl-backed Dobro decal.
Elegant and understated, the 27 Deluxe Bubinga Dobro offers an unprecedented rendering of this classic format, and presents a rare opportunity to acquire an extremely limited instrument for your collection or professional performance. Each one comes with a custom-made formfitting hardshell case and certificate of authenticity.
